As 2016 drew to a close, it seems like humanity as a whole pretty much agreed that it was one of the worst years in recent memory. From countless celebrity deaths, to the election of Trump in America, Brexit and its aftermath in the UK, the Syrian civil war, the Pulse nightclub shootings, and so much more, we all shouted “fuck 2016!” as the ball dropped on the first second of 2017.
Despite all of the terrible events that occurred in 2016, life continues on, and as we went into 2017, we all pondered what resolutions we would set for ourselves in the new year. Late at night on December 31, 2016, high school student Emile was writing down just that.
Emile sat down to his writing desk, his room dimly lit by a lone lamp. The student, around 5’11” with short, brown hair, and a moderate build, had recently read an article stating that people who wrote down their ideas on paper would remember them much better than those who typed them on a computer. Since he had forgotten all of his resolutions early in 2016, he set out to make sure he would not forget a single one of his planned goals, so he would be writing them all down on paper.
He was writing on a new type of paper he had gotten from the office supplies store. It was a small little mom and pop shop, and Emile was disappointed when he discovered that the store no longer carried the type of plain paper he usually got. Instead was a strange type of paper that he had never heard of before.
“…Changes?” Emile read off the package. “Printer size office paper that will…change your life?” The young boy was puzzled. What type of paper is this? It looked like cheap, weird offbrand stuff. Like those weird cereals at Walmart or QFC that would obviously just copy off brand-name cereals but with far weirder packaging. It was like that, but with printer paper. And what was with that brand name, “Changes?” It didn’t seem to suit the
Since the store didn’t carry any other type of good paper, (and it was also cheap) Emile set off with this new type of paper. After watching a little bit of a CNN broadcast leading up to the ball being dropped, he set off to his room, throwing on an old t-shirt and sweatpants, and began to write.
Emile pondered for a bit. Although he did well in art class in school this year, he figured it would be a good goal for him to take up painting more. As he put the pencil to the paper, his small room around him began to be cluttered with canvases he had painted on lately. Tons of them in fact, with subjects ranging from still life to the surreal. His clothes had also had minor smidges of paint on him now, as well.
However, the student was on a roll at this point, not paying any sort of attention as to the changes going on. As he continued to write down resolutions for 2017, more changes began to occur, in increasingly curious ways.
“I want to spend more time around animals, specifically cats,” Emile wrote. While the student may have had in mind the idea to visit an animal shelter, more changes began to occur. His body hair began to rapidly thicken and cover over his entire body, turning brown with specks of black. His hands slowly developed pads, increasing in size as fur began to cover them. A tail began to pop out of his back, and his ears slowly began to more up towards the top of his head and develop in a more triangular shape. Emile’s noise began to move down and began to extend into a snout, with teeth changing to become pointier and angular. Finally, the former human’s eyes began to shift so they resembled a much more feline-like appearance.
It was clear now that Emile had become a catboy, but he paid no mind to the changes that just occurred, because he was so lost in thought about New Years’ plans. He did, however, notice that he had a harder time holding the pencil with his paws. But he began to write, “I want to get in touch more with my feminine side.”
As he lifted the pencil from the strange paper, a wave washed over Emile’s body. He noticed his frame beginning to shrink, reducing in height by a few inches. His limbs began to shorten and become more delicate, with a lot of the excess muscle washing away seemingly. His short-cut brown hair began to cascade and flow down towards his back and shoulders. The fat redistributed itself around his body, with his breasts, butt, and hips beginning to slowly grow. The shape of Emile’s body began to change to become curvier, but only slightly. Emile’s shoulders began to shrink and become less prominent. As a final touch, his manhood disappeared, and instead became a smooth area.
Emile had now gone from a normal student to a catboy to a catgirl, all in the span of a few minutes.
Even this wasn’t enough for the catgirl to notice. Her mind began to change as she wrote down the next few new years’ eve resolutions. “I want to learn another language, maybe French perhaps,” she wrote. She began to realize that she could understand French, and when she spoke English, it was in a heavily accented French dialect. Even more so, her surroundings began to change. Her small room in a suburban American household gave way to a small studio in a city area of Paris, France. The building looked much older than her previous house, and outside she had a view of a quiet neighborhood in the French city. The paintings that had lined her previous room now had a beautiful view. What’s more, Emile now seemed to remember herself as Amelie, a young artist in Paris, instead of a suburban American high school student.
“Hmm…what else should I write down,” the catgirl pondered aloud in an accented English. “J’ai compris!” she thought, “I’ve got it!” She began to write down, “I want to find a true soulmate, someone who really cares about me.” Just then she heard a knock on the door. She opened it to reveal a tall, handsome cat boy of around her own age. The thoughts hit her in an instant, he was her boyfriend, and she fell into his arms, knowing that she had someone who cared about her. As the two shared a passionate kiss, the people outside began to cheer, “happy 2017!”

i was going to have my character speak more French, but i realized that i had forgotten all the French I had learned and I didn't want to use google translate because it can be really unreliable.

Oh yes, Google Translate isn't good at all to make right sentences ^^; Happy new year from France (but not from Paris).
